Sohonke Tanuki-mura Garage Market 総本家たぬき村 ガレージマーケット
A reservation-only garage market run by 有限会社サイエンスファクトリー (Science Factory), an animal production company. Browse new, used and outlet supplies for keeping animals, pet food and insect-keeping supplies, as well as original Tanuki goods from Sohonke Tanuki-mura and animal-themed items — and choose them while seeing the real thing.
What is a “Tanuki”?
The tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog) is a wild animal found in Japan. It belongs to the dog family — despite its English name, it is not a raccoon. In Japan the tanuki is also a familiar figure in folklore. Our character Mugi is a tanuki.
Please note: this is a shop, not a zoo or an animal café. There are no live animals on display, and you cannot meet or touch tanuki or other animals here. “Tanuki” refers to our brand, our character and our original goods.

Items in stock change. Items offered at the Garage Market are available for purchase during your visit. Online purchases and item reservations are not available through the Garage Market.

Before you book
- Reservation only. Each visit slot is 50 minutes, for up to 2 people per group.
- Visitors must be 18 or older.
- Pets cannot come with you.
- As a rule, please refrain from taking photos.
- Only the people in your reservation may wait at or enter the premises.
Fees and payment
The facility fee is waived if you buy 1,000 JPY or more. If you buy nothing, the fee is not refunded.
If you book a consultation only, the 1,000 JPY facility fee is not charged on top. Consultations are approved by our staff, are provided in Japanese, and are not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or treatment.
Payment on the day: cash or PayPay (a Japanese mobile payment service).
How to book
- Choose a date and time on the booking page.
- Fill in the form (see the glossary below) and confirm.
- Check your email. Your slot is held for 15 minutes. Open the link in the email and press the button on that page within that time — otherwise the slot is released.
- Booking confirmed. Consultation requests are confirmed after our staff approve them.
- Online booking closes at 18:00 (JST) on the day before your visit.
- You can cancel until 18:00 (JST) on the day before, using the link in your confirmation email. To change the date or time, cancel and book again.
- After the deadline, please contact us by phone.
